We hope that First Baptist Ukiah is a place where you will feel comfortable and welcomed by God’s people, even if you have never been to church before. Our messages and worship are founded in biblical truth and we aim to communicate the truth of the Gospel in a way that is understandable so that everyone can experience the joy of knowing Jesus Christ as they grow in relationship with Him.

Our Mission

FBU exists to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ

Our Core Values

Relevant Biblical Truth

We believe that the truth of the Bible is both perfect and relevant for us in our lives today. All of our core values are rooted in the Word of God and we believe biblical understanding is important for every follower of Christ to grow in their relationship with Jesus, because scripture is the way that God reveals himself to us.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)

Discipleship

We highly value the discipleship of all ages, as Jesus has commanded us to do. Biblical Discipleship is the primary way believers grow and become Christ-like. We believe in making disciples who will make disciples.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Godly Leadership

Our leaders will strive to be Christ-like servants in the church, knowing that all authority comes from God.

Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. (John 13:14-16)

Prayer

We believe prayer is essential to a person's spiritual development. Jesus commands us to pray, because prayer is powerful, effective, and brings us into the presence of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:18)

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16)

Biblical Integrity

We will seek to demonstrate integrity through ethical practice and transparency, as directed in the Bible. As Godly stewards, we will be clear and transparent in all we do, seeking to please God instead of man.

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. (Titus 1:7-9)

Compassionate Outreach to the Community

We will aim to demonstrate love and compassion to those in our community by seeking to meet both physical and spiritual needs as we carry out the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20 to go and make disciples.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19)

Our Beliefs

One God, Three Persons

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit exist in unity as one triune God and three separate distinct Persons

Jesus Christ is the Son of God

He was born of a virgin as both fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, died to atone for the sins of man, was buried, arose from the grave, ascended into heaven, and will return again.

The Holy Spirit

The divine helper, assistant, counselor and instructor. His work is to reveal Christ, convict of sin, lead to repentance, guide believers, comfort, strengthen, and sanctify. He is fully God and equally as glorious as the Father and Son.

The Bible

The Bible is the Word of God and is without error. Scripture is the sole and final authority for the life of a believer.

Man

Humans are the special creations of God, made in His image, and designed to glorify Him. We fell because of Adam and Eve's sin, and we continue to sin and are in need of salvation.

Salvation

Salvation is deliverance from the current power of sin and the eternal spiritual death caused by sin, which is only possible through faith in Jesus and His redemptive work on the cross, and is demonstrated through repentance from sin.
