Study bibles

“It is important to study and learn because God has taken great pains to reveal Himself to His people. He gave us a book, one that is not meant to sit on a shelf pressing dried flowers, but to be read, searched, digested, studied, and chiefly to be understood.” -R.C. Sproul

No matter what translation you use, it’s important to have a good study bible. Below are links to some that we at FBU have found helpful.

Understanding the Bible isn’t for the few, the gifted, the scholarly. The Bible is accessible. It’s meant to be read and comprehended by everyone from armchair readers to seminary students. A few essential insights into the Bible can clear up a lot of misconceptions and help you grasp the meaning of Scripture and its application to your twenty-first-century life.

Studying the bible is not supposed to be easy

“Probably the biggest misconception that people have about studying the bible is that it should be easy. Any discipline you’ve ever learned, whether it was learning to play a musical instrument or learning to cook a recipe really well or learning to be proficient in a sport, the first time that you sat down to learn that you weren’t good at it, you felt kind of dumb, and you wanted to quit. Bible study is a similar skill. It’s absolutely a skill. Three years from now you’ll be better than you are today. And five years from now you’ll be at it than you were three years from now. And so on and so forth.” -Jen Wilkin
